Faith Development for Middle‑Schoolers

The UUCB Junior Youth Group (grades 6-8) spends the year learning about our church community in the fall and the broader community in the spring.

Activities include an ongoing church scrapbooking project as a way to contribute to our church community, and designing a peace and social justice project as we learn about hunger, stereotypes, what, if anything, is worth fighting for, and our UU heritage of peacemaking.

Class begins each Sunday with a look at one of our UU principles of faith, along with our chalice lighting. Classes usually include spirited discussion and, of course, food.

About once a month, the middle school youth get together with the church's younger children for Children's Chapel, a time for special celebrations and to get to know each other better.

To connect with youth from other Unitarian Universalist congregations in the area, our middle school youth can participate in district-wide conferences ("cons") a few times each year.
