Lifespan Faith Development at UUCB

Educational Philosophy

The UU educational philosophy is not to impose doctrines upon either our children or each other. Our way is to give ourselves a place where everyone can safely and honestly create a personal faith — one that grows from reason, experience, and love.

Read more about the UU philosophy of religious education and the curricula that is available to UUCB from our parent organization, the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA).

Children and Youth Faith Development Classes

Every Sunday morning we provide Faith Development classes for children (preschool through grade 5; younger children go to our nursery) and for middle-school youth (grades 6-8). We also have a great group for high-school teens (grades 9-12).

Most Sundays, we offer a 15-minute age-appropriate worship service for children and youth before their regular classes.

Our classes make use of the professionally researched and tested educational curricula developed by UUA, which we tailor to match our particular class situations.

Our Faith Development Council and Faith Development teachers strive to provide classroom, social, and group activities that teach our children key UU principles that can inspire them in a life-long practice of strong moral, ethical, and social action values.

Class Registration

Visitors are always welcome to our Sunday School program. After your third visit, if you would like your children to continue to participate, we ask that you register them. Parents need not be members of UUCB to enroll their children in our programs.

Registration enables us to plan our program and supply needs better, maintain important information (including allergies and food sensitivities), and accurately represent to the UUA the numbers of children and youth participating in our program.

Recommended fees are $50 per child for members and pledging friends, with a cap of $100 per family; for nonmembers, it is $75 per child, with a cap of $150 per family. A sliding scale is available. These fees help offset the approximate cost of over $250 per child to run our Faith Development program.

Volunteers are the foundation of our Faith Development program, and parents are expected to contribute their time and effort. To have more input into developing what Faith Development programs are made available at our church, we invite you to join the Faith Development Council.

Other Faith Development Services

Besides Sunday morning Faith Development classes, we offer several intergenerational activities throughout the year, such as picnics and holiday events.

UUCB also offers various classes and workshops for adults.

In addition, UUCB has a Listening/Reading Room with books on religious and spiritual topics for all ages.

Recommendations for books of interest to the UU community can be found on the UUA Bookstore web page.

"Exploring religious truth, meaning, and experience is central to the Unitarian Universalist faith, and faith development is central to our liberal religious education programs. In the UU Church of Boulder faith development programs, our goal is to help you make meaning of your life experiences within the framework of our faith."
